The group of Food Technology and Biotechnology Department, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary (FAV), University of Pristina, Kosovo, is engaged in the preparation of professionals and scientists in food sciences, able to contribute to all stages of the food chain, including quality assurance of processes and products. This is accomplished by encouraging FAV students and academic staff to participate in continuing education programs, research, and training in the above areas. These educational objectives of the department are pursued by offering the BSc program “Food Technology with Biotechnology” and the MSc program “Food Science”. The vision of FAV is to become the engine of agricultural education by inspiring sustainable living through advanced teaching and research in agriculture, food, animal and environmental sciences. Educational and research activities are carried out in laboratories as Laboratory of food technology, Laboratory of grains, Laboratory of wine, Laboratory of Food Microbiology and Hygiene, Laboratory of bacteriology, Laboratory of Biotechnology etc. Research topics of the group are focused on characterization, technical optimization of processes and development/innovation of valued-added agricultural, food and nutritional products with safe, health and trend issues.
Available instruments include among others UV/vis spectrophotometers, Titrinoset, refractometers, microwave digestor, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, ebuliometer, Elisa system and Real time PCRs, Biosecurity Bank for DNA/RNA extraction, Biosecurity bank for mastermix preparation. Promylograf T3, Falling number set, Grains Contador, Separator for screening percentage etc. Funke Gerber 3510 Lactostar Milk Analyser, somatic cell counter, measuring device for CO2 content and air residue in bottles and cans, digital salt meter, Wagner Fruit Test TM FT Series, hydrometer, lactodensimeter, butirometers, etc. Didactic technological lines for Milk and Meat, Fruit and Vegetable processing as well as Wine production lines are at disposal.
