Location of the summer school: university campus of the University of Split, Croatia.

Organizers: Faculty of Science and Faculty of Chemistry and Technology (both faculties are members of University of Split)

University of Split – Campus

Faculty of Science

Duration: one week (starting on Sunday, July 7, and ending on Saturday, July 13).

Accommodation: accommodation for the participants is provided in student dormitories located within the university campus of the University of Split, i.e., just a few steps away from the building of the Faculty of Science where the summer school takes place

Virtual tour through the facilities of the student dormitory “Dr. Franjo Tuđman” (in Croatian)

Alternatively, participants can be accommodated also in the facilities of Medils (Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences), located outside the city center, just few meters away from the coast in the idyllic green environment beneath Marjan hill. The less convenient side of this accommodation are higher prices and necessity to use either car transport (at least 15 minutes of driving but it can be also considerably longer in the case of traffic) or public transport (these connections are not frequent).

Participants: 35 students (BSc, MSc and PhD level) and 19 teachers from institutions being part of SI-1312 CEEPUS network.

The concept of the summer school: The summer school is conceived in a way that students would be offered at least six hours of organised activities daily. This will be achieved by giving lectures in the morning (mainly between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm), then one hour and a half will follow (intended for taking a lunch in the university canteens and for social gathering) , and then, as a rule, seminars or workshops-practical work (either in laboratories or in computer classrooms) between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm) will follow. While the lectures in the morning hours will be common for all students who attend the summer school, students are able to choose between two types of workshops. The first type of workshops (on the schedule coloured in green) was intended for students who are more oriented toward theoretical work in the field of chemistry and consist of the learning of computer simulations of molecular dynamics (MD) or other computer-assisted theoretical methods. The second group of workshops (on the schedule coloured in yellow) is focused more to applied chemistry. Due to organizational issues, students have to decide which type of workshops they would like to attend before the beginning of the summer school.

Program of the summer school:
